Christian Science nursing home KL 30
The basis and guideline for the KL 30 is found in what Mrs Eddy tells us in the Manual of TMC
1. ”God requires wisdom, economy and brotherly love to characterize all the proceedings of the members of TMC, The First Church of Christ, Scientists.” Manual p. 77
2. “ To keep the laws of the land” (we are working and living in).
3. …”to keep abreast of the times”. Manual p. 44
Example to 1. Wisdom
The KL 30 is not organized as a “nursing home” but “an organization giving CS nursing care”. The KL 30 itself is renting some rooms in a big farmhouse for short term cs nursing care. In this same farmhouse Christian Scientists can rent rooms /apartments for short or long stays. The nurses of the KL 30 can nurse those care guests in their own rooms/ homes. By organizing it this way, the KL 30 is not under health regulations nor any restrictions for nursing homes.
Example to 1. Economy
- We are not living, working in luxury but go by the needs and supply them.
- We find ways to minimize workload if it is in line with “brotherly love”.
- We installed solar panels to minimize electricity bills and ensure sustainability.
- The Co- Administrator is donating his work to the KL 30, The Administrator has reduced her salary considerably as the supplies of the KL 30 diminished.
Example to 1. Brotherly love
The KL 30 is including the neighbourhood by employing a neighbour as well as inviting neighbours to our garden parties. All our work is “Love in action”.
We took in a lady who lost her livelihood when her home was destroyed during the big flood last August.
Example to 2. Keep the laws of the land
When the covid restrictions started all helpers working with elderly people needed to be tested before entering the house. We provided for those tests.
Example to 3. Keep abreast of the times
We are using modern equipment in our nursing ( new sliding sheets and 2 shower chairs bought in 2021 ) as well as in our housekeeping (more efficient dishwasher ) to be able to minimize the workload. A car with the facilities to transport a person in a wheelchair was bought in 2021)… God will lead us into temporary and eternal means…Sc. + H.
Name:
“ Christlich-wissenschaftliche Interessengemeinschaft, KL 30 gemeinnützige UG“ „Community of those Interested in Christian Science, Hym 30 benevolent association. Explanation of name: The lawyer who set up the Organisation gUG needed a number in the organizations name. So immediately hymn 30 came to mind: “ Brood over us with thy sheltering wing”, and I could see our team as “Brotherbirds that soar and sing, and on the same brunch bend.” This idea was again used in our Logo.
Purpose of the organization:
- To provide Christian Science nursing care
- To give needy aged Christian Scientists (as Eddy calls them “reformer”, Message for 1901 p. 29) a home.
- To support Christian Science by educating CS nurses (advance religious purposes)
What kind of organization is the KL 30?
- The smallest and easiest form of a benevolent organization non profit making organisation the German legislation offers is a gUG. A gUG is financing itself through the payments of the benefited people and the generosity of doners who value the organizations benevolent activities. Being a “gemeinnützige =benevolent association” in Germany means, the organization is solely allowed to care for a certain group of people which are:
- 1. People of the age of 75 + or
- 2. People who are needy and get social welfare or
- 3. People who need nursing care or
- 4. People who find themselves suddenly in a needy position (sickness, homelessness…)
Who owns this gUG?
- The founder of the gUG, Gisela Kitchingman ( myself) is the associate. I paid 1.000 Euros to establish the gUG. That amount belongs to me. All other monies which were granted since its founding belong solely to the gUG as long as it exists. At a time of dissolvement the monies go to a different benevolent association for CS nursing care (Förderverein für CS nursing, Köln).
Finances
- The financial dealings of the gUG are being watched and checked by the tax and revenue office in Germany. Our annual accounts also have to be made transparent by inserting them in the “Bundesanzeiger” (official open page on the internet for businesses) . This is a legal requirement.
CS nursing in the KL 30
We are in close contact with TMC concerning all our CS nursing activities.
To be able to stay at the KL 30 all guests need to work on healing with the help of a CS practitioner.
Short term nursing : We offer rooms for short term nursing.
Residents: All our residents are with us because there are nursing needs as well as they needed a home. (“Reformer should not be left to the mercy of those who are not glad to sacrifice for him”…Message for 1901p. 29). One of our Reformers had been a CS practitioner for decades, then in her 100th year, being an inspiration to all of us.
Day care: We also offer loving care during the day for a Christian Scientist living locally.
Visiting nursing: When ever needed and it is possible we also send out nurses for visiting people in their own homes.
Occupancy: Most years we had an occupancy of 100 %.
CS nurses: We have 3 JLN,
2 not yet JLN with years of experience
All our nurses work about 10-12 days a month (one day 8hrs)
Nurses students: We are also helping CS nurses on their way to Journal listing
Other Personal: We employ several cooks parttime, 1 housekeeper, 1 cleaning lady, gardener, Administrator and Co – Administrator
All our personal are Christian Scientists with only two exceptions of which one is just reading through Sc.+H. ….
CS nursing has to stay “abreast of the times”. It`s ways and means will change according to the changing needs in the world. We here in the KL 30 try to stay alert to be able to meet those changing needs in the field. We start each day by asking God for His guidance by inspiration. Thus being grounded on the Rock we are free to “soar and sing” in harmony according to God`s conducting.
